My "East York Skatepark" painting came from a regular session at East York, in Toronto.

Nothing special was happening, it was an early summer morning and there were no other skaters at the park. The tyke pyke was the main reason I chose to skate there. It's a small and fun quarter pipe, the perfect place to learn new transition tricks. |
What stuck with me wasn’t a specific trick I was working on, it was the feeling of being there. The pauses between runs, the noise of my board hitting the concrete and that tree behind the ramp that brings so much beauty and peace to the place.
I didn’t want to paint a skate trick. I wanted to paint what it feels like to be at a spot like this.
If you’ve spent any time at East York, you probably know what I mean and what this painting is about.
