Locked In

The "Locked In" painting came from a photograph I took in 2024 at the Hoedown at The Hoof.

Skateboarder performing a trick on a purple ramp with spectators in the background.

Hoedown is an open contest that takes place at the Vanderhoof Skatepark in Toronto every year. It brings together skaters all over Canada to skate, celebrate bowl skating, hangout and have fun. A mix of pros and locals together in a chaotic, loud and high-energy big skate party.

Person skateboarding doing a trick on a ramp coping When I looked at the photos I took that day, I kept feeling drawn by this one photo. The way the skater sits right on that edge between slipping out and holding on. The lock-in of the truck on the coping and how the board sits all crooked but still holds.

In this painting I wanted to capture the fleeting moment of the skater's control, that split second where the board could possibly slip, but doesn’t.
